POETRY AT THE MORIKAMI
Poetry and the Japanese-American Esthetic
A workshop with P. Scott Cunningham. The work of Kimiko Hahn, a featured festival poet and one of America’s most renowned Japanese-American poets combines ancient Japanese forms with contemporary American variations to create a Japanese-American aesthetic. We will discuss Kimiko Hahn’s work and how it is influenced by traditional Japanese forms, especially the Tanka. Participants will have the opportunity to write in the Morikami gardens.
Dr. Blaise Allen, Director of Community Outreach for the Palm Beach Poetry Festival will host the workshop which will be taught by Florida International University Professor Scott Cunningham, poetry editor of Gulfstream Magazine, a national literary journal based in Miami. Mr. Cunningham is also a contributing editor at Florida Book Review and a frequent contributor to the Arts section of Miami New Times. Seating is limited. You must register to attend. Contact Dr. Blaise Allen at drblaiseallen@aol.com or call 561-868-2063. Do not call The Morikami as the museum staff is unable to register participants.
